HelpText cleanup and Voice Styles
How much does Stenowise edit my text?
Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux
By default, Stenowise cleans up every dictation: it adds punctuation and removes filler words. The baseline sets how much it changes.
Choose the baseline
- In the sidebar, open Voice Styles.
- Under Baseline, choose Raw, Light or Strong.
The baseline applies in every app. The default is Light.
| Level | Effect | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Raw | Word for word as spoken | “so um i haven't checked that in trelo yet i can do it later i'll let you know then” |
| Light | Punctuation added, filler words removed | “I haven't checked that in Trello yet. I can do it later. I'll let you know then.” |
| Strong | Sentences merged and smoothed | “I haven't checked that in Trello yet, but I can do it later and will let you know then.” |
The Raw level is the same as text cleanup switched off.
Paste a single dictation raw
With the Dictate raw shortcut, Stenowise pastes a single dictation without text cleanup, exactly as spoken.
| Windows | macOS | Linux | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dictate raw | Ctrl + Space | Option + Space | Ctrl + Space |
No text goes to the server for text cleanup. Recognition itself still runs where you have set it to run. The shortcut is only available while text cleanup is switched on.
Switch off text cleanup
- Open Settings › Privacy.
- Under Recognition and text cleanup, switch off Text cleanup.
From then on, Stenowise pastes every dictation as the raw version. Voice Styles and Change by voice have no effect. Replacements from your dictionary still apply to the raw version.
Time limit
If text cleanup does not answer in time or returns nothing usable, Stenowise tries a second time. If that also fails, Stenowise pastes the raw version. You cannot change the time limit. For details, see Why is the raw version there?
