HelpText cleanup and Voice Styles

Why is the raw version there?

Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux

The raw version is the recognised text without text cleanup. Stenowise pastes it instead of the cleaned-up text in the following cases.

Text cleanup did not answer

If text cleanup does not answer in time or returns nothing usable, Stenowise tries a second time. If that attempt also fails, Stenowise pastes the raw version and shows the notice “Raw version pasted”: “The text cleanup returned nothing usable. The raw version may contain mishearings.”

You see the same notice when there is no connection to the server.

The weekly limit ran out mid-dictation

If the weekly limit runs out during a dictation, Stenowise pastes the raw version without a second attempt. The notice reads “Weekly limit reached”: “Stenowise pasted the raw version. A new week starts on Monday, or right away with Pro.” For details, see What happens when the weekly limit is reached?

You dictated raw

With the Dictate raw shortcut, Stenowise deliberately pastes the text without text cleanup. By default, this is Ctrl + Space on Windows and Linux, and Option + Space on macOS.

If text cleanup is switched off under Settings › Privacy, or the baseline is set to Raw, Stenowise pastes every dictation as the raw version.

Switch versions in the history

Entries without text cleanup carry the “Raw version” label in the history. For a cleaned-up dictation, you can switch between the versions.

  1. In the sidebar, open History.
  2. Hover over the entry and click More options.
  3. Choose Restore the raw version. Restore the edited version takes you back to the cleaned-up version.
  4. Click Copy and paste the text where you need it.

Words you added to the dictionary as a replacement are replaced in the raw version too.
