Sound and media while dictating

Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux

Stenowise can mark the start and end of a recording with a sound, and it can mute your computer's sound while you dictate.

Sound on start and stop

  1. Open Settings › Output.
  2. Under Sound, switch on Sound on start and stop.
  3. Under Volume, set how loud the sound should be.
  4. Under Output device, choose the device Stenowise plays the sound on, for example your headset.

The sound is off by default. The Volume and Output device rows only appear once the sound is switched on. With Default, Stenowise plays the sound on the system's output device.

Mute sound while dictating

  1. Open Settings › Dictation.
  2. Under Microphone, switch on Mute sound while dictating.

Stenowise then mutes your computer's sound during every recording and turns it back on afterwards. If the sound was already muted before the recording, it stays muted. The feature is off by default.

Stenowise does not pause music or videos. They keep playing without sound during the recording.
