Stenowise

HelpTroubleshooting and support

Known limitations

Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux

In the current version, these features only work on some systems or within limits.

Dictating and pasting

  • Change by voice: The feature works on Windows only (Change text by voice).
  • Change by voice in Word: Word and some other fields do not accept the change, so Stenowise puts it on the clipboard (Change text by voice).
  • Change by voice without a selection: Without a selection, Stenowise replaces a dictation directly only up to 300 characters (Change text by voice).
  • Remote sessions: Stenowise recognises Citrix and Remote Desktop only on Windows (How does Stenowise paste the text?).
  • Mute sound while dictating: During the recording, Stenowise mutes the sound of the whole computer and does not pause individual programs (Sound and media while dictating).

Microphone and learning

  • Level and raw capture: Stenowise reads, sets and restores the microphone level only on Windows, and raw capture only works there too (Check your microphone).
  • Learn from corrections: This feature only runs on Windows (Learn from corrections).

Linux

  • Pasting: Stenowise needs wtype, dotool, ydotool or on KDE kwtype on Wayland, and xdotool or ydotool on X11 (The text is not pasted).
  • On-screen indicator: On Linux, Stenowise shows no on-screen indicator (Your first dictation).
  • Cancel: On Linux, the “Cancel” row is missing from the settings; you cancel a dictation through the icon in the notification area › Cancel (Cancel a dictation or paste it again).

History and download

  • Search in the history: The search covers only the loaded entries, and “Load older entries” loads 30 more at a time (Use the history).
  • Downloads: The website offers the download for Windows. macOS and Linux will follow (Which systems does Stenowise support?).
