HelpDictionary, snippets and history
Use the history
Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux
The history holds your earlier dictations with their text and, if kept, the recording. The history is stored on this device only.
Find a dictation
- Open History in the sidebar.
- Type a search term in the “Search the history” field.
The search covers the loaded entries. Load older entries adds 30 more each time.
What you can do with an entry
Move the pointer over an entry. Copy and Play recording appear directly on the entry, the other commands are in the More options menu.
| Command | Effect |
|---|---|
| Copy | Puts the text on the clipboard. |
| Play recording | Plays the saved recording. |
| Restore the raw version | Shows the text as it was recognised before text cleanup. Entries in this version carry the label “Raw version”. |
| Restore the edited version | Switches back to the cleaned-up text. |
| Recognise again | Recognises the saved recording again. |
| Export audio | Saves the recording as a WAV file. |
| Report a problem | Opens a report about this dictation to Support. |
| Delete entry | Deletes the entry with its recording. |
For more about the two versions, see Why is the raw version there?
Recordings in the history
Play recording, Recognise again and Export audio appear only for entries with a saved recording. Stenowise keeps recordings only when Keep recordings is on under Settings › Privacy › History. It is off by default.
Each new recognition counts towards the weekly limit. If Stenowise recognised no text in a dictation, the history shows “No text recognised”. If a recording exists, the Recognise again button appears next to it.
Report a problem with a dictation
More options › Report a problem sends a report that contains this dictation with its raw version and result. For details, see Report a problem or give feedback.
How long Stenowise keeps texts and recordings, and how to delete the whole history, is described in Keep or delete history and recordings.
