Keep or delete history and recordings
Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux
Stenowise keeps your dictations in the history on your device. You set how long texts and recordings stay there under Settings › Privacy in the History group.
Default settings
| Setting | Default | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a history | on | on, off |
| Keep texts | Never delete | 30 days, 90 days, Never delete |
| Keep recordings | off | on, off |
| Keep audio for | 14 days | 7 days, 14 days, 30 days |
With Keep a history off, Stenowise keeps neither the text nor the recording after pasting. “Paste last dictation again” then does not work either.
With Keep recordings off, Stenowise deletes the recording after the dictation. With a saved recording you can have a dictation recognised again later or export it as a WAV file.
When Stenowise deletes older entries
Stenowise deletes texts older than the set period at startup and after every dictation. It deletes older recordings at startup. The stats are based on the history and only show dictations that are still in it.
Delete a single entry
- Open History in the sidebar.
- Point to the entry and click More options.
- Choose Delete entry.
Stenowise deletes the text together with its recording.
Delete the entire history
- Open Settings › Privacy.
- In the Delete the entire history row, click Delete ….
- Confirm with Delete in the dialog.
Stenowise deletes every dictation and its recording and reports, for example, “25 dictations deleted.”
