HelpDictionary, snippets and history
Use your dictionary on several devices
Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux
With the “On every device” sync, you can use your dictionary and your snippets on every computer where you are signed in with the same account. Syncing is off by default and does not need Pro.
Turn on syncing
- Open Dictionary in the sidebar.
- Under Sync and learning, turn on On every device.
- Read the “What this does” section and click Turn on.
- Sign in with the same account on each of your other devices and turn on On every device there too.
What is synced
Stenowise stores your words, replacements and snippets encrypted on the Stenowise server so your other devices can fetch them. Dictated text is not included, and the history stays separate on each device.
Stenowise syncs every 15 minutes. Sync and learning shows when the last sync took place, for example “Last synced: today, 14:05”. Sync now starts a sync by hand.
If a sync fails, you see “The dictionary could not be synced just now. Stenowise tries again by itself within 15 minutes.” You have to be signed in to sync.
Turn off syncing
- Open Dictionary in the sidebar.
- Under Sync and learning, turn off On every device.
Stenowise then deletes the copy on the server. Your dictionary and snippets stay on the device. If the copy cannot be deleted at that moment, Stenowise tells you so and tries again by itself within 15 minutes until it works.
