Learn from corrections
Applies to: Windows
If you correct the same word by hand after several dictations, Stenowise adds the correction to the dictionary. This feature is available on Windows only and is off by default.
Turn it on
- Open Settings › Privacy.
- Under Learning, turn on Learn from corrections.
The same switch is also on the Dictionary page under Sync and learning.
How Stenowise learns
After pasting, Stenowise watches the field of your dictation for 90 seconds and notes which words you change by hand. While it does this, the menu of the icon in the notification area of the taskbar shows “Looking out for corrections in the field you dictated into”.
When the same correction occurs in three dictations, Stenowise adds it to the dictionary. The notice is called “Newly learned” or “New word learned”, for example with the text “Stenowise now writes “Tanhorst” as “Tannhorst”.” In the dictionary, these entries carry the label “learned”.
The evaluation runs on your computer only. The content of the fields does not leave it.
Take back a learned entry
- Click Undo in the notice.
- Or move the pointer over the entry on the Dictionary page and click Undo.
Exclude apps
Stenowise reads no field in excluded apps. By default, the list includes Visual Studio Code, Cursor, Windows Terminal, Slack, Teams and Notion, among others.
- Open Settings › Privacy.
- Next to Excluded apps, click Change.
- Enter the process name the way Task Manager spells it, for example
slack.exe. - Click Add.
- Click Done.
To allow an app again, click Take off the list next to the app in the same list.
