Share a dictionary with your team

Applies to: Windows, macOS, Linux · Pro

A shared dictionary lets a team keep common names and technical terms in one place. Only an account with Pro can create one. Members need a Stenowise account.

Create a shared dictionary

  1. Open Dictionary in the sidebar.
  2. Click Create shared dictionary.
  3. Enter a name, for example “Meyer case”.
  4. Click Create.

The dictionary appears as its own tab next to All and Your words. If your Pro plan ends, the dictionary stays.

Invite members

  1. Select the tab of the dictionary.
  2. Open the More options menu and choose Invite.
  3. Enter the email address and confirm with Invite.

The invited person receives an email with a link that is valid for seven days. They open the link in the browser and sign in with exactly that address. If they do not have a Stenowise account yet, they set one up first. The dictionary appears in their app at the next sync. You can invite the same address again after 24 hours at the earliest.

Manage members

More options › Show members lists all members with their email address and the open invitations. Remove takes a member out, Withdraw cancels an invitation.

RoleCan
Ownerinvite, remove members, withdraw invitations, delete any entry, dissolve the dictionary
Memberadd entries, delete their own entries, leave

An account can create up to 20 shared dictionaries. A dictionary can have up to 50 members, and open invitations count towards that number.

Leave or dissolve

  • Leave: The dictionary and its entries disappear from your computer. The owner cannot leave.
  • Dissolve: Stenowise deletes the dictionary and all its entries on every device. If other people still use it, you confirm with Dissolve anyway.

If you lose access, Stenowise offers to add the entries you wrote to your own dictionary.

Frequently asked questions

Which replacement applies when two entries share a spoken form?

Your own replacement always takes priority. The entry in the shared dictionary then shows “Your own replacement applies to this spoken form. This one has no effect.”

How often does Stenowise sync the dictionary?

Every 15 minutes, the first time 90 seconds after start-up. To sync by hand, choose More options › Sync.
